Founded in 1979, the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra (TSO) is a nonprofit, donor-supported organization dedicated to bringing exceptional orchestral music to the Tallahassee community. Its mission is to engage, enrich, and inspire people of all ages through outstanding performances, educational programs, and inclusive community experiences.
Established by composer and educator Nicholas Harsanyi, the TSO has grown into one of the region's leading cultural institutions under several distinguished music directors. The orchestra maintains strong partnerships with Florida State University and Florida A&M University and regularly collaborates with FAMU's Concert Choir. Committed to accessibility and inclusion, the TSO offers free community events, youth education programs, and performances that honor history, social justice, and the Civil Rights Movement, ensuring that classical music remains vibrant, relevant, and welcoming for all.
