Museum of Florida History Not Opening Until 2028 at the Earliest

Rumors around town have been that the museum would reopen in 2026, but that date only refers to the initial repairs. The museum is not expected to reopen to the public until 2028.
From the imposing mastodon skeleton that greets you when you first walk in, to the gold treasures, Old Florida memorabilia, and Grandma's Attic, the children's hands-on area, the museum has welcomed visitors since 1977.
News of the prolonged reopening date has disappointed many Tallahasseeans who have been visiting the museum since childhood, hoping to share the same joy with their children. Those plans must be put on hold for at least three more years. State Historic Preservation Officer Alissa Lotane, discussing the reopening timeline, hinted that only the prehistoric portion of the museum might open by 2028, while the rest of the renovation may not be completed until 2029.
For now, the shuttered building and construction equipment are a sad reminder of all the experiences and memories not being formed for the children and visitors to Tallahassee as the renovation and repairs slog forward.
