Let's come together, support families in need, and kick off fair season the best way possible, by making a difference! The Second Harvest of the Big Bend and North Florida Fair are banding together to fight holiday hunger with a simple yet fun move: free fair tickets in exchange for donated canned food. From 2 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 10, visitors can receive a free admission ticket by contributing two non-perishable goods per person at the fairgrounds. The food collected will be directly shipped to Second Harvest, assisting local families in need as the holiday season approaches. "October kicks off the holiday season, and this is a special way to engage the broader community around hunger and food insecurity," said Second Harvest CEO Monique Ellsworth. For others, the exchange offers a chance to give and go to the fair affordably; four items donated can replace a $34 family pass. North Florida Fair Executive Director Miranda Muir reiterated the importance of keeping donations local, noting that the food donations stay within the Big Bend area. Up to five admission tickets per participant will be used to make the effort a community fundraiser and a celebration of philanthropy that will directly benefit Tallahassee families.
